Sam McKnight for Chanel 2013 - Ode to Mary Queen of Scots

At the Chanel pre-fall 2013 show the models showcased a contemporary, edgy twist on an Elizabethan influenced look. As well as wearing high collars, ruffles and angular, square silhouettes, the hair was adorned with pearls, jewels and feathers and the hair and make-up was very obviously inspired by the Tudor and Elizabethan era. The hair-do was a very tall style created using padding to create the height, small french plaits coming up the sides and back of the hair and the lengths of the plaits wrapped and pinned around the padding, then frizzing techniques to cover the padding and plaits to create the frizzy, curly Elizabethan look. The style was finished by different hair accessories that really set off the Golden Age vibe. The make-up was a clean, slightly paler base teamed with very rosy cheeks and glossy pale pink lips with graphic liner sweeping boldly below the eyes and halfway across the top lid for a very modern and on trend look.
As I had never heard of Sam McKnight before I decided to have a look at some of his online profiles and images of his work and found it very useful and interesting that he has a 'Get the look' page which contains step by step images on how to recreate some of the amazing hair styles he has done for fashion shows. By looking at these I feel I could really understand how he created the look and would like to have a go at trying this myself. It made me feel very inspired and will definitely be looking at his work again in the future for inspiration. He posted a step by step on how to create this shows hairstyles here: http://news.sammcknight.com/get-look/chanel-metiers-2013-mary-queen-of-scots/
